A King's 'Birthday' Parade and a President Playing King on his Birthday: Trooping the Colour & Trump's Military Parade
Saturday's parades and the parallel protests, plus King Charles & Trump receive the same critique
On Saturday, we saw a President cosplaying a King with a military parade on his birthday, a parade for a real King’s birthday, but not on his actual birthday, and ‘No Kings’ or ‘Not my King’ protests respectively all over the globe.
What a time to be alive.
It feels like we are all furiously trying to keep time with commanding conductors, the music’s extreme dissonance rising to meet the growing unease and unhappiness with our traditional institutions. The foundations of our governments have never felt more unstable.
American democracy has reached a nadir. People in Britain are largely apathetic to the monarchy or frustrated by the lack of financial transparency, and are questioning its relevance.
