Breaking News: Buckingham Palace Releases an Update on King Charles
What we know (and don't know) about King Charles's health from this recent news drop
Apologies for two posts in one day, but the news waits for no one.
Here is a video I made explaining today’s news from Buckingham Palace on King Charles’s plans to return to public-facing duties next week, along with exclusive details you may not see anywhere else.
If you’re like, Meredith I do not have the attention span for a nearly 4 min video, here’s a brief outline of the important deets.
What did we learn about King Charles’s Health? Not much.
My key takeaways from the Buckingham Palace press release:
King Charles is returning to public-facing engagements.
He will not have a robust schedule & it’s subject to change based on the advisement of his doctors.
BP was careful to word this in a way that tells us he’s not in remission, he isn’t done with treatment, and we do not know the type or stage of cancer.
Why now? The 1 year anniversary of King Charles’s Coronation is May 6th. Along with a new portrait of the couple (which included allll the details on when, where, and who took the photo—take notes Kensington Palace) they probably wanted to release good news to go along with it.
What I’m looking out for:
How the British media covers the news. (I know what I would ask if I were a reporter on the beat, but I’m not, and I also do not have a complicated relationship with the Palace to protect.)
If any articles focus on Prince William and what we may expect from him this summer.
I will have more thoughts on this in the coming days that I will share on my paid tier. Not subscribed? Sign up here:
More to come.

I think this is definitely a "just updating you to update you" release and doesn't actually mark any change in status. As you've noted, this is in contrast to KP, which seem to be on the "no updates until we're forced to" release schedule. I think the backchannel "not good" pieces out there may have also been released by BP soften expectations, while this official release may be a way for them to say: Charles is now going to not pursue so many treatments, and will spend whatever time he's got doing his job. Without a cancer-free announcement, it seems like he's likely been making some tough decisions about how he wants to spend the next however-many months of his life.
So very sorry to have heard about the passing of your family member. It sounded like it was rather traumatic, but that you were able to comfort her enormously in her final moments. Kudos to you for being there and sticking with her through the difficult process of her death.
