I think the negative connotation of the VF piece is the title which automatically makes your mind connect to the movie which is about con artists. But I agree with your overall take on the article.
That’s a great point. And in that regard the title did its job. It got people to pay attention and have immediate reactions. Which, I’m not saying is excellent from a journalistic standpoint, but certainly from a clicks/eyeballs standpoint
On the Vanity Fair piece: on some level it tried to give a brief summary of Harry and Meghan business ventures over the past 5 years. As a follower of Harry and Meghan’s news these felt like rehashing old news, but I suppose this article will be read by people who don’t follow them closely so it is necessary. For someone like me half of the article is old news and insights are not very deep.
Lainey (who is quoted in the article and is the writer behind the LaineyGossip website) wrote a long essay about the article, how she got quoted and her thoughts on Harry and Meghan’s career. It is on her Substack theSquawk, behind a paywall but it is well worth the $5. It was one of the best analyses of the Sussex situation and much better than the Vanity Fair article in terms of insights.
On the ARO trademark, I read somewhere that you have to show first use in order to claim it. So maybe that was what she was doing last year, to show that she is the first person to use that phrase. Also, there are so many restaurants with names like “Boston Market” or “New York Pizza”, how do they get away with using a geographical location?
I will admit that I had to read vanity fair and then walk away and then read a couple more times...
At first I got mad..lol. In my mind it was sloppy.
Sloppy because of the second half that regurgitated for the attack dogs, Instead of continuing a more unbiased piece that it began as.
Breaking it all diwn and pointing out the weak points. Giving your audience a balanced view of reality is simply well done.
I would hope that you get more audience appreciation as time goes by.
(My pro Harry opinion)
The reality is... This Prince has just as much right to live away from salty island as Prince Margaret did, hiding in Mustique or Princess Eugenie in another foreign country.

Harry's infraction? Daring to and succeeding.
Love the long form video, Meredith, thank you!
