My favorite holiday falls near the end of May.
Obviously I am talking about Me….mbering the 1997 taped performance of The Dance, the on-stage reunion of the 1975 Fleetwood Mac line up—we’re talking Stevie, Lindsey, John, Christine, and Mick. The taped performance in Burbank, CA would determine if they would embark on an actual tour.
After their performance of “Silver Springs”, a relatively unknown song left off of Rumours, there was no question.
Obsessables
When I mentioned my obsession with the “Silver Springs” 1997 live performance, Amye of
immediately blurted out, “SAME.” And we stared into each others eyes like Stevie and Lindsey during that performance—without the whole decades of toxic romance between us—and knew what we had to do.We had to share our obsession with this singular moment—roughly 48 seconds (yes I tried to do the math) of a stare, an intensity, and a history that, once you learn it, you’ll be obsessed too.
Imagine if Taylor Swift wrote “Dear John”, but John Mayer had to help arrange and produce the song and then had to play it and sing backup vocals on stage for decades. That is “Silver Springs”—and “Dreams”, “Go Your Own Way”, etc.
Let’s get into this little Tortured Poets Department known as Fleetwood Mac, how we got to that moment with “Silver Springs”, why the November 29th and 30th performances might have had more meaning, our favorite songs to cry to in the car and, of course, we watch and react to the performance.
Celebrate May 23rd 2023 with us, better known as “Silver Springs Live in 1997 From Burbank, California Where Stevie Nicks Turns Her Microphone and Holds Eye Contact with Lindsey Buckingham for an Uncomfortable Amount of Time While She Sings About Her Voice Haunting Him Till the End of Time” (Were workshopping the title).
Let me know what you think, how you were introduced to this performance or, if this is the first you’ve heard of it! Also, be sure to give
a follow here and wherever you get your podcasts. We don’t know where our “obsessables” will take us, but we enjoyed the hell out of this one.
